Method & Assumptions

Fill percentage is computed as F = 100 × Σ A_cable / A_tray.

Variables:

  • A_cable – cross-sectional area of each cable
  • A_tray – usable inside area of the tray

Citations: NEC 392

Applicability: valid for uniform cable loading with fill below 50%.
